13:55 (27/12/15) משה כהן

With the help of the almighty To the Rav HaChassid….. Shlit’a I was delighted to hear that you, Honorable Sir, are willing to step in our behalf and take part in the efforts to renew and rebuilt the Holy Tziun (marked burial site) of the Ancient Tribes of Asher and Naphtali the Sons of Our Holy Father Yaakov oleh hashalon, may they rest in peace. Asher Ben Yaakov passed away 3452 years ago and both brothers’ burials took place 3272 years ago, when the Children of Israel entered Eretz Israel, and its division of the land according to the tribes. Although the twelve brothers’ burial sites were each in his own tribe’s territory, a few of them were in the same proximity, as the joined sites were placed along their mutual border. This is also found in the cases of Issachar and Zebulon (the known site that was visited also by R’ Nathan) – as well as Joseph and his sons Ephraim and Menashe, also by Reuben and Gad, Shimon and Levi. Bilha’s sons, Asher and Naphtali, were Joseph closest associates. The Tzadikim Hilula (Yartzeit), according to the ‘Yalkut Shimoni’ is no doubt on the month of Shevat, but it is debatable whether on the 22th or the 4th according to other sources. The previous 7 years saw few Minyonim, but on 5774 (2014) there were 150 men on this date, on 5775 approximately 250 people. Midrash Talpiyot quotes the Ari Z”l that Asher Ben Yaakov guards the gates of Gaheinom against entering of anyone who studies Mishnayot. The Ari Z”l tells us that prayers to saints of the statures of Asher and Naphtali at their holy sites that are not frequently visited is highly acceptable. (Sha’ar Ruach Hakodesh 28 b) Our holy Rebbeinu revealed: the secret of Eretz Israel’s four winds is the Tefillin of the Head - In Likutei Halachot” Tefillin is Naphtali and Asher is Head”. The known question about the absence of this place by the Ari Z”l, and R’ Nathan Z”l, is explained by the similar absence of mention of Joseph’s site. That is, this Geographical area simply was not covered by them at all… A few miracles were noticed in connection with the site: on the 20 Shevat 5767, a few bachurim From the Breslov Yeshiva in Peki’in, intended to visit the site early morning at dawn. The Lebanese Hizzbula Terrorists planned a massive attack on the border, which is quite close, by the “Old north road”. Three heavy bombs exploded in the morning and the Yeshiva was asked not to arrive that day. Following the true Breslov spirit we saw the incident as merely an “obstacle”, a disturbance of a sort, to our holy intention. Clapping hands and dancing to “make the bitter sweet” (Hamtakat Ha”Dinim), we got into the cars. Many shots were fired at the young men of the yeshiva , but as explained by R’ Nathan, A prayer on such sites is helped by the almighty. – ‘Keeps his devoted followers safe” and none was hurt. On another incident, few friends that were unfamiliar with the place lost their way at night. The driver later on remembered that during his army service, he found an extremely relaxing spot at the area, and of course, found the site (it is interesting to note that across the street are the burial sites of the Prophetess Devora and her husband Barak – the driver’s name in this incident was Barak) Here is a short list of scriptural sources. It is based on my immediate memory, there certainly are many more. THE TRIBES ELDERS HOLY COFFINS WERE BROUGHT AND BURIED IN ERETZ-ISRAEL: 1 (Shemot) 13: (19) … In reference The Midrash Raba (Bereshit Vayechi, 100, 11) ‘and joseph made the sons of Israel swear etc. (50, 25): obviously heard, the Talmud says (shemot 13, 19): with you, when you rise to the land of Israel” therefore, the tribes’ elders holy coffins were brought along, as quoted: ‘with you’ 2 Talmud Yerushalmi Sota (1, 10) “Every single tribe, brought his elder chief’s holy coffins with him” 3 Rashi on Masekhet Baba Kama (92, 1) All tribe (elders) bones left (were taken from) Egypt, and buried in Eretz Israel, As said: and you had brought my holy coffins from here with you (shemot 13) Indicating the holy coffins were brought also. And the particular mention of Joseph’s name is significant only in the sense of glorifying Moses, as all Israel were busy in receiving the gifts of Egypt while Moses was handling the mitzvah (of taking care of the Elder Joseph’s bones): THE TRIBES WERE BURIED IN THEIR OWN TERRITORIAL GROUNDS: Apart from the scriptures, The Sefer Hayashar (by Joseph Ben Guryon author of the book of “Yosiphun”) (p. 295):”The tribes were buried in their own territorial grounds: ‘and in those days, as the sons of Israel sat securely in their cities, and they buried their tribes’ ancestors’ coffins which they had brought from Egypt, each man in his son’s territorial land, the twelve sons of Jacob were buried each in his son’s inherited land; and these are the names of the cities in which they buried the twelve sons of Jacob… and Naphtali and Asher they buried them in ‘Kadesh- Naphtali’ each man in his son’s land.” This evidence is supported by the other brothers’ sites. THESE GRAVES ARE THE ONLY KNOWN TZADIKIM SITES THAT HAVE NOT BEEN REBUILT UNTIL THIS DAY! (MORE THAN TWO THOUSAND YEARS). THE BORDERS OF ASHER AND NAPHTALI ARE SHARED: JOSHUA (18, 31): “And Asher was met by him from the direction of the sea” The Metzudot David explains: West of Naphtali’s land, which is Eastward of Asher. The city of Kadesh is mentioned in the Bible several times. It was one of the thirty-one cities captured by Joshua: ‘and they dedicated (in Hebrew:”Kidshu) Kadesh in the Galilee, at the Mountain of Naphtali” (Book of Joshua 20, 7) it’s importance was emphasized by being among the six Levitite cities (of the tribe of Levy). It was, along with Hebron and Shechem (Nablus) one of the three sanctuary cities West of the Jordan River, offering refuge from ‘Blood vengeance’ for the Israeli accidental killer. It was part of Naphtali’s land (Book of Joshua 21, 32). It was also mentioned at the time of the tribes’ exile (second Book of Kings 15, 29). Here was also the historical location of the famous ‘battle of Kadesh” , the Egyptian defeat by the Hittites’ empire (which, paradoxically led to the disappearance of the later…) THE EXACT LOCATION IS FOUND TODAY ON ROUTE 899 NEAR KADESH- NAPHTALI, next to the water spring mentioned in contemporary guide books, as per example: 1 OUR ANCESTERS (Kadmoneinu) (1987) p. 365, the original in p. 299. 2 THE GUIDEBOOK (More Derech ) R’ Y. Tshingle 3 RIGHTEOUS ELDERS BURIAL SITES (Kivrei Tzadikim) R’ Y.M.Stern – p.551-2 4 HOLY SITES IN THE GALILEE (M’komot Kdoshim BaGalil) –p. 439 5 THE”CARTA GUIDE” Later on, B”h the ancient sources will be indicated. HOW VERIFICATION OF SOURCES IS ESTABLISHED: Obviously, the mentioned books did not unreasonably place the burial site in a random manner; the locations were identified according to traditions handed over from father to son and the generation’s elders’ indications. Indeed two local elders, who since childhood had frequented the site, were consulted. Along with Safed’s elders who told them that the place was a habitual pilgrimage destination many years before the state of Israel was re-established (and they are fully willing to testify the fact in official testimony). This testimony is documented in the book “Eden Zion”, published approximately 1927, By R’ Yeshia Halevi Horowitz Z’l (father of the Hassid R’ Shmuel Horowitz Z”l). Giving an exact description of the site, its proximity to the spring, Devora’s coffin, etc. It is mentioned that the sources are books of 500 years ago. Forty years ago, the numbers’ of the pilgrimage was scarce, but there was never a period when the holy site was not visited by Jewish pilgrims. A researcher testified that there were ‘Kwitalach’ (notes of application for G-d’s blessings) placed in the site’s stones. There used to be a community living there, in order to safeguard the location of the burial sites. The book ‘Shvilei Yerushalayim’ published 700 years ago mentions: ’The Jews lived there only in order to preserve the Jewish tombs, and to receive the visitors that were coming there to pray upon the graves”. The book ‘Igeret Kodesh Glilot Eretz Israel’ published 300 years ago: ’the Holy community of ‘Kadesh –Naphtali’. THIS IS NOT A “NEW SITE” BUT ONE THAT WAS LARGELY IGNORED, ALMOST, G-D FORBID, FORGOTTEN!!! The reason for the adjacent sites, of both Asher and Naphtali, is explained there: “To bring together man to his brother, as it is exactly here that their border’s (between the two brothers’ lands) passes, and this can be verified. THE SITE MUST BE RESTORED. Procedural Matters In 2008 I had discussions with some Governmental entities about receiving a permit for these holy burial sites. And an ordered application was made to the Nature and Gardens Authority, North. An application was sent along with copies made from the books. They willfully consented to build only with local stones, in a manner that will be both dignified and agreeable to the site’s surroundings. (See appendix 1) In response, the authority’s officials agreed the site is indeed recognized as a Holy site And needs renovation but an officially recognized burial- sites- renovation- body (Amota) Must be the legal body to apply, as the permit cannot be granted to a private person. (See appendix 2) Contact was made to the Committee for Saving Burial sites (Va’ad Lehatzalat Kvarim). (See appendix) and was told that… a) At this time, they are busy at other sites. b) A deposit of 2,000 USD is needed. The “Ohaley Tzadikim Organization”, overseeing expertise of site locations, agreed the location which is next to the spring, but can be located in a radius of 5 meters around. But it is written in the scriptures that a stone made a memorial to a saint Is a location of the saint’s soul, so that precision is not absolutely vital. R” Herzberg of The Ohaley Tzadikim Organization letter of support to our application was not answered by the Authority of Nature and Gardens. (See appendix 3) The letter to Authority of Israel Real Estates (Reshut Mekarke’ai Israel) was likewise remained unanswered but we have an affirmation of our letter’s reception. (See appendix 4) MANY OTHER PUBLIC FIGURES HAVE REMAINED OBLIVIOUS TO OUR APPLY. The location is on lease by “Kibbutz Malchia” and used as a grazing ground. The location was recently surrounded by iron fencing and the sites accessibility made more difficult by more fences. (As a result of the fact that some of the pilgrims of our times tried to remove some of the fences to get to the sites.) LET US PRAY THAT, BY THE MERITS OF ASHER AND NAPHTALI SONS OF YAAKOV OLEH HASHALOM WORLD PILLARS, WE SHALL RENOVATE THEIR SITES AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, AMEN. Appendix. Letters written to various authorities and the (lack of) responses: 1 To the Manager of Nature and Garden Authority North (Date: 23.5.2012) I need to express my perplexity, in hope for your cooperation. The subject is the holy sites of the brothers Asher and Naphtali sons of Yaakov our father oleh hashalom. According to tradition, the burial grounds are in “Tel Kadesh Naphtali” on route 889 close to Ramot-Naphtali and Kibbutz Malchiya. The site is mentioned in Carta’ maps 2013. It has many evidence and sources of verification. Now it is on lease and used as cattle grounds! The place is enclosed in barbed wire; the place consists of two sarcophagi, partly broken, without any official indication sign nor a proper way to get to. The letter’s date, which is on Asher’s yaartzeit’s date, (20th Shevat) there we met many pilgrims of the sites. Many locals, but also a few American tourists, raise the question… How can the State of Israel neglect this important location, an historical reminder of our past? I had applied to the Nature and Garden Authority North in 2008, (four years before the present letter’s date) as I found a doner willing to build a proper construction, in accordance with the surroundings) BUT YOUR RESPONSE WAS A REFUSAL, AND NOTHING CHANGED SINCE!!! I hope you will apply yourself to the matter and we shall see, on the next Yaartzeit Renovation of the site, which will be acceptable to the accommodations of thousands of visitors and prayers. Avraham Irgas 2 From the Manager of Nature and Garden Authority North To Avraham Irgas Wednesday 30 Jan. 2013 Apologies for the delay in answering your letter. The Nature and Garden Authority North Respects the tombs of Tzadikim and other holy sites in the north area. The site mentioned is partly in reserves and garden areas where access to the general public is not properly arranged. During the previous year, there was a deep adjustment work of the Nature and Garden Authority North with “Ohaley Tzadikim Organization’ led by………….. In collaboration, we defined the places and conditions by which the organization will dedicate tombs of Tzadikim for public attendance, therefore it is suggested you will apply for the organization. In addition, the land is on lease by the Authority of Israel’s Lands (minhal mekarke”ey Israel) So you must apply to this Authority as well. ……………… the General Manager consultant 3 To ……………….–Consultant to the Manager of Nature and Garden Authority North From …………………… Chairman of “Ohaley Tzadikim Organization” Date: 05.1.2014 … Although formerly, the list of sites for renovation did not include the sites we mention A note must be made: 1. These sites indeed were mentioned in pilgrims’ writings and must be preserved. According to our previous agreement, there is no need of further request in the matter of Painting the holy site to distinguish them to the public. AS THE AREA IS ON LEASE AND USED FOR CATTLE GROUND, IT IS IMPROPER TO CONTINUE THE DESECRATION OF THE HOLY SARCOPHAGI. PROPER SIGNS AND FENCES MUST BE ARRANGED. 2. We request now, further, building a symbolic memorial mark, or a natural stone construction or fence to safeguard the site. 3. Permition given, I will personally attend to the site, and also Mr. ………….. – Former Head Archaeologist, north, all under the guides of the “Ohaley Tzadikim Organization” 4. Prior to that, I request arrangement of the free access to the site, separating it from the cattle-grounds, moving the fencing that surrounds the area of about 2 Meters from the tombs. So that the Sarcophagi will be located on the way to the water spring, enabling the many visitors, local and from abroad, following the guide books maps, as present access to the place currently is impossible. Further still, I request the authority for Israel Roads to locate proper road signs, as the place is mentioned in many guide books, because visitors indeed frequent the place and are misled by the place’s mishandle. A response will be highly appreciated. 4 TO Avraham Irgas FROM the Authority of Israel’s Lands (Minhal Mekarke”ey Israel), Public attendance office north DATE: 30.10.2014 your application was received and will be attended as soon as possible. When the inquiry will be completed we will send you our response.
